Dr. Margaret Offermann is deputy national vice-president of research for the American Cancer Society, where she helps to lead all intramural and extramural research programs, and assists with the development of strategic plans to integrate activities across the research department, Cancer Control Sciences and health promotions section. Dr. Offermann is a medical oncologist and tumor biologist. Prior to her work with ACS, she was professor of hematology at the Emory University School of Medicine, co-director of the MD, PhD training program, associate director of the postgraduate training program, and associate director of the Emory Winship Cancer Institute. While serving on the faculty at Emory, Dr. Offermann also supervised the inpatient oncology service, oncology consult service, and the oncology outpatient clinical, as part of the internal medicine residency program and subspeciality training program at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Offermann’s research interests include Kaposi’s sarcoma, and the role of interferons in enhancing cellular antiviral responses. She received her Doctor of Medicine from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, and completed a fellowship in medical oncology at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School in Boston. She is board-certified in Medical Oncology.
