The Georgia Center for Oncology Research and Education (Georgia CORE) is an independent, non-profit organization working to improve cancer care in Georgia by strengthening clinical research throughout the state. A young organization founded in 2003, Georgia CORE is a novel collaboration of clinicians, scientists, educators, public health practitioners and those affected by cancer.
Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in the state and the disease most dreaded by Georgians. However, 21st century scientific, clinical and technological advances offer great promise for the discovery of new cancer treatments and even cures. The leaders of Georgia CORE are dedicated to advancing standards of cancer care and accelerating cancer research to take advantage of these emerging opportunities.
With the active engagement of Georgia oncologists, partnerships with the state’s four medical schools, funding from the Georgia Cancer Coalition and Emory Winship Cancer Institute, an NCI-designated cancer center, and the Georgia Society of Clinical Oncology (GASCO), Georgia CORE aims to improve the quality of cancer care in Georgia through clinical research. The Georgia CORE leads a collaborative effort to address the state’s most pressing cancer-related issues: building working relationships with academic and community oncologists and healthcare systems, increasing awareness of the need and value of cancer clinical trials, brokering partnerships that lead to the initiation of new trials and the discovery of new treatments.
